Blessings and Prayers

It’s likely that your child brought home a bottle of holy water from this month’s Family Formation classroom time.  We encourage you to use this powerful sacramental to bless your home and your children each day.

When they were young, we started the simple custom of blessing our children each night before they went to bed by tracing a small cross on their foreheads (with holy water when available).  Now that they’re older, they still come to us for blessings before they leave for school each day, before a big test, when looking for reconciliation after a disagreement, before leaving for college  (*wipes away maternal tears*), etc.

Besides imparting the power of a parental blessing, it’s a comforting ritual that assures the kids of our prayers and assures my husband and I that they still value them!  In fact, I’ve come to the conclusion that my role as mom never really ends (thank you Lord!) and one of my most treasured memories is blessing our two oldest daughters before they walked down the aisle on their wedding days (more tears).
