- November 1 is All Saints’ Day, a solemnity (a particularly important holy day) and typically a Holy Day of Obligation. It’s the day we honor all the saints in heaven and ask for their prayers that we might join them there someday. Father will probably be wearing white for Masses on this day (so dress your paper doll accordingly) and you may want to put this art on your prayer table as a good visual reminder that heaven is filled with saints praising God! You could also put a photo of your family on your prayer table as a reminder that you are all hoping to be there someday as well!

- On November 11 we celebrate the feast of St. Martin of Tours. Family Formation students all spent time learning about him in the classroom this month, so be sure to have them tell some details from his remarkable story. They also may have gotten a holy card picturing him as a soldier sharing his cloak with a beggar. This would be a great day to review what they’ve learned and to display that card on your prayer table.

- November 21 is the Feast of Christ the King and this is the perfect time to decorate your prayer center for a king! The official liturgical color is white, but gold would also be very appropriate. You can purchase gold fabric at many fabric stores if you have a way to hem it, but you can also get shiny gold paper doilies at party supply stores, if you’d like to go an easier route. (Look in the 50th anniversary section.) Do you have a shiny gold costume crown, gold candles, or any other gold (polished brass) accessories? This is the time to bring them out! I had a surprisingly difficult time finding art for this one, but you might enjoy making your own art with this picture of Jesus Christ, King of kings.

- And now for something completely different – Advent begins on November 28. Change your prayer table cloth to purple. I don’t own an “official” Advent wreath, but it’s tradition in our house to place a creche on the prayer table and add a figure or two each week. To begin with, there are just a few sheep milling about. I have four votives on the periphy (the traditional 3 purple and one pink), and we light the appropriate candles each Sunday evening.
