As we look forward to our first classroom time, Matt had a great suggestion for catechists to integrate some of those beginning-of-the-year details with the first lesson on the Holy Mass. Instead of just handing out tithing envelopes and W.O.G. Logs at the busy time at the end of class, try expanding on their purpose during the lesson.
W.O.G. Logs can easily be introduce during the lesson section on the Liturgy of the Word. As you hand them out, encourage your students to bring their Bible to Mass and follow along with the readings. From there, you can introduce them to the daily Mass readings (and where to find them), and encourage their daily reading of God’s Word.
Similarly, instead of handing out tithing envelopes as a footnote at the end of class, try handing them out when talking about the offering at Mass. By making this connection, you’re upping the chances that your students will actually use them and you’re highlighting a way they can personally be involved at Mass and in the support of their parish.
