Lesson Notes: Saint Joseph and Patron Saints

In this lesson we’re going to learn more about Saint Joseph, that amazing saint who knew Jesus and Mary better than anyone else on earth.

To do this, we are inviting your family to pretend you’re on a game show with five questions and multiple choice answers. Some of the answers choices are pretty silly because the point is to keep everyone engaged through the little teaching which explains the correct answer to each question.

The second half of this lesson teaches us a little about all the other saints there are, and that we can always, always go to them for prayer and help.  They are in heaven constantly worshipping God, but they have not forgotten about us here still on earth.  They know first-hand how amazing it is to be with God and they want everyone to be there with them.

The project illustrates this extended family. Yes, your family probably includes all those who live in your house, but it’s also bigger than that. We’re looping around to a theme from the beginning of the year where we learned about our ancestors, those who have influenced the faith of our family, and saints like our patrons, Mary, and Joseph.

The activity plays on a “family tree” theme and uses a small branch in a vase and all the frames we’ve provided to create your unique family faith tree. (HINT: Even if you don’t have access to a branch and vase, you can simply adapt the activity by taping the frames to a wall or hanging them on your refrigerator.)
