There are two essential elements in the rite of Baptism – invoking the name of the Holy Trinity, and immersing or pouring water on the person being Baptized.

Catholics tend to do it on auto pilot, but point out to your kids that every time they bless themselves with Holy Water, they’re recalling these two essentials.  They make the Sign of the Cross, praying in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and they’ve just dipped their fingertips in the same type of water that was present on the day of their Baptisms.

Praying this prayer with purpose will add a sense of meaning to this wonderfully automatic action that defines us as Catholics.
