One of the beauties of teaching your own kids is that you typically have a very clear idea of what they do and don’t know about a particular topic and can adjust your lessons according. In this case, I’m talking about those pesky 6th and 9th Commandments and preserving the innocence of your youngest students.
This week’s lesson on Reconciliation rightly includes a closer examination of the Ten Commandments, but please note the game questions pertaining to “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife” and “You shall not commit adultery.” Both are handled in a sensitive way, but if these topics are completely off the radar screen of your 5-year-old, it may be better to just skip those questions and cover it next time this cycle comes around and your child is three years more mature.
On the other hand, if there is even a remote chance that your children are exposed to situations like those described in these game questions, you really owe it to them to make sure they understand.
