Plan to join Archbishop Nienstedt on March 27th at 7pm at the Cathedral of Saint Paul, as he celebrates one of the most important liturgies in the local Church’s life – the Chrism Mass.
Within this Mass, traditionally celebrated on the morning of Holy Thursday, the oils used for baptism, confirmation and ordination will be solemnly blessed by the Archbishop. In addition, the priests present will be invited to publically renew their sacred commitment to serve God’s Holy Church. There are few better ways to prepare for the coming feasts of Easter than to join in this most solemn of liturgies.
This year’s liturgy will feature two additions of the artistic variety. The combined choirs of the Cathedral of Saint Paul, the Basilica of Saint Mary, and the Schola Cantorum of the University of Saint Thomas will be singing together, making for an impressive ensemble of singers and sounds within the Cathedral.
The debut of a new setting of psalm 89, utilizing the new Grail text, composed by Father Jan Michael Joncas. This setting was commissioned for use at this year’s Chrism Mass and we are excited to share the fruits of Father Joncas’ labors. Please make plans to participate in this year’s Chrism Mass.
