Collect (KAH-lehkt)

Also known (in the English-language liturgical books) as the “Opening Prayer,” a formal prayer, usually addressed to the Father, through the Son, in the Holy Spirit, by which the introductory rites are brought to a close and the assembly is prepared for the Liturgy of the Word.    Catholic Dictionary, Stravinskas

One of the most beautiful parts of the new translation of the Roman Missal is the beautifully re-worded opening prayers!  The poetic language is meant to set the tone for each day’s liturgy and helps us to better enter in to the mystery of that which we celebrate.  To help you prepare for Masses this week, we’ll be posting each day’s collect for your meditation.
