What we believe about the Eucharist is central to our identity as Catholics, so this topic pops up over and over again in Family Formation – both classroom and home lessons.
- When we hear the Last Supper readings this week, we’ll hear Christ say, “This is my Body.” Not this is a symbol of my body or this is a really good analogy for my body.
- Only a Catholic priest, acting in the Person of Christ, the true and only Great High Priest, can consecrate hosts to make Christ present to us in this way today.
- And we believe that Christ remains truly Present in even the smallest part of a host as long as it subsists. This is why we genuflect to His Presence in the tabernacle and have Benediction, and times of Eucharistic Adoration.
You’ll also want to check out the little story on pages 2-3 about Blessed Jacinta Marto, one of the visionaries at Fatima. Even though she was too young to have yet received Holy Communion, an angel told her about it’s true beauty and she absolutely hungered for it!
It’s a good reminder for us all, but may be of special interest to your younger kids who have also not yet Received.
