Defend us in battle

Today is the Feast of the Archangels Angels, Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel and to celebrate, we suggest you turn to your September Home Lesson on Angels.

The main goal of that lesson is to remind us that the popular notion of angels as feathery little cherubs flying harmlessly around is likely nowhere near the truth.  Really, from Scripture and Tradition we get quite the opposite picture:

We pray that St. Michael the Archangel will be our mighty defender in battle and ask him to cast Satan into hell!

Exodus 23:20 tells us that God sends an angel before us, to guard and bring us to heaven.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that angels help the Church and protect every human being.

If you haven’t done your September Home Lesson yet (or if you have and just want to play bingo again), today is the perfect day to go for it!  You’ll be learning along with the wisdom of the liturgical year and that just gives your lesson time an added relevance.

Besides, it’s always great to have a reason to celebrate.  Might I suggest angel food cake for dessert?
