Your meditation for today

Advent WreathI know it’s Christmas Eve and you’re probably insanely busy, but if you get a peaceful moment on this last day of Advent, take a bit of time to think about this passage from Pope Paul VI’s Evangelii Nuntiandi:

In a family which is conscious of this mission [to transmit and radiate the Gospel], all the members evangelize and are evangelized. The parents not only communicate the Gospel to their children, but from their children they can themselves receive the same Gospel as deeply lived by them.  -EN 71

My question is this: How do your children communicate the Gospel to you?

I’d love to hear your answers in the comments box and I’ll be glad to start that conversation.

  1. In my own life, when they were small, they were constantly calling me to a life of service to others. Every day I grew in patience or failed abysmally at doing so (and knew I needed to try harder). Becoming a parent gave me a greater sense of responsibility toward these people God had entrusted to my care. I had a very grave sense that I needed to learn and practice the Faith better on a personal and public level so I would be a better example. Every time I think about it, I am even more aware that my path to holiness is through the Sacrament of Matrimony.
