Pictures of God

Creation of Adam (detail) by Michelangelo

Any picture we have of God will ALWAYS fall short of reality, but Scripture and Tradition give us some pretty good hints about what He’s like. Your family will be learning about some of these attributes during this week’s Home Lesson.  Using a simple device that all of your readers will know (AEIOU), we’ll be learning some big words that lead to big understanding!

God transcends all creatures. We must therefore continually purify our language of everything in it that is limited, image-bound or imperfect, if we are not to confuse our image of God — “the inexpressible, the incomprehensible, the invisible, the ungraspable” — with our human representations. Our human words always fall short of the mystery of God.
