- Title: The Complete Illustrated Children’s Bible
- Publisher: Harvest House Publishers
- Full Text or Bible Stories
- Protestant, Catholic, Good for Either
- Recommended Ages: Would be a good read aloud for preschoolers and older. The vocabulary and story length would make this Bible a good first-reader choice.
- Pros:
- Very nice illustrations
- Shorter “chapters” would be just right for daily reading.
- Durable hardcover
- Good job on the Last Supper story. “This is my body.” “This is my blood.”
- I haven’t tested it, but I’ll bet this Bible covers the stories to use in a Jesse Tree devotion
- Title: The Catholic Bible for Children
- Publisher: Ignatius/Magnificat
- Full Text or Bible Stories
- Protestant, Catholic, Good for Either
- Recommended Ages: Would be a good read aloud for preschoolers and older. This one would also be a good first-reader choice.
- Pros:
- Nice illustrations
- Very short chapters
- Strong glossy pages and strong paperback cover
- Scripture references are noted on the stories for those who want to look them up in a full-text Bible
- Many stories have a direct quotation from Scripture noted on the bottom of the page.
- Cons:
- The binding prevents the book from laying open. It definitely takes a hand on each side to keep it open.
- The stories are really short.
